DLA Support

Applying for Disability Living Allowance for a child can involve a lot of information about their care, supervision and mobility needs. Our DLA Support service gives parents and carers a guided online journey to help explain the extra support their child needs.

DLA Support

Support throughout your child’s DLA journey

Tell us about your child, their everyday needs and the help they receive. Your secure DLA Support area guides you through the relevant questions, evidence and next steps, and continues with you if the claim moves on to a decision, Mandatory Reconsideration or appeal.

How we can help

The service helps you organise the information needed to explain your child’s additional care and mobility needs.

  • Guided questions based around the child DLA form.
  • Help to explain daytime care, attention and supervision.
  • Help to record night-time needs and support.
  • Guidance around walking and supervision outdoors.
  • Space for real examples and supporting evidence.
  • Support with decisions, reconsideration and appeal if needed.

What the service does not do

DLA Support helps you prepare and organise your information, but there are some important boundaries.

  • We cannot guarantee that DLA will be awarded.
  • We do not decide which care or mobility rate should be awarded.
  • We do not provide legal representation.
  • We do not replace the official DWP claim or appeal process.
  • Tribunal attendance is not included as standard.

What we look at

Child DLA looks at the additional help, care or supervision a child needs compared with another child of the same age.

Daytime care
Help with personal care, eating, dressing, washing and everyday activities.
Safety and supervision
The supervision needed to keep the child safe throughout the day.
Night-time needs
Waking, supervision, settling and help needed during the night.
Communication and understanding
Prompting, support and additional help with communication or understanding.
Walking and mobility
Physical walking difficulties and age-appropriate mobility considerations.
Guidance outdoors
Guidance, supervision and support needed when outside or on journeys.
